The Difference Between Dermal Fillers

The Difference Between Dermal Fillers

What are the Differences Between Dermal Fillers like Juvederm and Restylane?

There are many different dermal fillers, or “injectables” out on the market right now. With so many products that produce very similar results, such as Juvederm and Restylane, many of our patients would like to know, what is the difference between these fillers anyway?

Well, for starters, there is generally very little difference between these two products. Both Juvederm and Restylane are FDA approved hyaluronic acid- based dermal fillers that are injected under the skin. Hyaluronic Acid is a naturally occurring substance found in the body, which provides temporary volume, as well as boosts the natural collagen production in areas of the face after dermal filler injections.

Dermal Fillers are a great option for those who have lost volume, fat or collagen in certain areas of the face. They can also help to improve the appearance of deep wrinkles, and give skin a more supple, youthful appearance by bringing water to the surface of the skin.

While the differences between Juvederm and Restylane fillers are fairly scarce, there are a few points where these products differ: First, while both products are established from the base of Hyaluronic Acid, Juvederm is made up of 35% more Hyaluronic Acid than the composition of Restylane. According to a number of board certified plastic surgeons, Juvederm has a slightly thicker consistency than that of Restylane, making it the ideal choice for fillers in the lips, as well as for deeper wrinkles in the forehead. Restylane, on the other hand, is more commonly used to fill in collagen loss in areas such as the tear trough area due to its ability to spread in a thin manner under the skin.

Overall, Juvederm and Restylane are extremely similar injectable fillers, and both products work well in smoothing the skin’s overall texture, minimizing wrinkles, and creating a more youthful appearance. Speak with your doctor or local Medical Spa professional to receive a consultation and decide if dermal fillers are the right choice for your next cosmetic treatment!
