Juvederm Voluma

WHAT IS JUVEDERM?

JUVÉDERM is an HA (hyaluronic acid) dermal filler brand formulated by the company Allergan, and it enjoys being the highest selling filler collection in the US. Each JUVÉDERM filler corrects volume loss and smooths a different area of the face by lifting cheeks, plumping lips, smoothing parentheses lines, and more. The results are natural looking and can last for years.

The JUVÉDERM  collection of fillers is made from a modified form of HA and resembles a colorless and smooth gel. The injectable gel contains a small amount of lidocaine, a local anesthetic, to reduce injection discomfort during treatment. HA is a prime ingredient for dermal fillers because the substance is a naturally occurring sugar found in the skin which deliver nutrients within the skin, helps skin retain its natural softness and moisture, and adds volume to the skin.

WHAT IS JUVEDERM VOLUMA USED FOR?

As time goes by, gravity begins to take effect on our features and one of the most irritating effects is sagging and volume-loss in the upper mid-face region. JUVÉDERM Voluma is designated for deep subcutaneous injection to improve age-related volume deficit in the cheek area and to smooth wrinkles in the upper mid-face in adults over the age of 21.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

JUVÉDERM Voluma is designed to fight gravity and temporarily provide lift in the cheek area, effectively creating apples in the cheeks. Sagging in the cheek area adds quite a few years onto ones age, so treatment results in a more rejuvenated and youthful appearance.

JUVÉDERM Voluma is delivered by injection into the cheek and surrounding areas on the face using a very small and fine needled syringe. Lidocaine mixed with the HA material helps to improve client comfort during treatment. JUVÉDERM Voluma lasts for about 1-2 years for most clients depending on their metabolism, and is sure to redefine your look for the better.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR THE TREATMENT?

In our office we provide our filler clients with complimentary Arnica, an oral medication that greatly reduces the occurrence of bleeding, bruising and/or swelling during and after treatment. This should be taken starting 2 days before treatment.

Please refrain from taking any blood thinners, or anti-inflammatory medication, which includes Advil, Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Fish Oil, Vitamin E, etc. about a week before treatment. This also reduces the chance of bleeding, bruising, and swelling. Please avoid alcoholic drinks for about 24-48 hours before treatment.

BEFORE

Before beginning your injectable gel procedure, you will be asked about your medical history as well as your treatment goals. This personal evaluation will determine whether you are an appropriate candidate to receive this treatment or not, and you will be consulted regarding what to expect during and after treatment, including possible side effects. The skin around the treatment area will be examined by DermaFashion RNs and photos will be taken solely to compare your before/after look. Topical numbing cream will be applied to the area prior to treatment, and the treatment area will be prepared by being cleansed with alcohol or other antiseptics.

DURING

After the first injection into the cheek or mouth region, your nurse will wait a few seconds to allow the lidocaine to take effect before moving forward with the rest of the treatment. JUVÉDERM™ XC gel will be injected in small amounts over the treatment area until the desired aesthetic outcome is achieved.  Your nurse may massage the treatment area gently to assure that the material is evenly distributed.  An ice pack will be applied for a brief period of time following treatment to minimize swelling and reduce pain.

AFTER

Your nurse will also tell you what to expect following JUVÉDERM ™ XC injectable gel treatment. Within the first 24 hours, you should minimize strenuous exercise and extensive exposure to sunlight or heat. Exposure to any of the aforementioned may increase temporary redness, swelling, and/or itching at the injection site.  If there is swelling, you may place an ice pack over the swollen area.
